How Much Did I Sell My IS300 For? And all the HATE I got!
For years, I went back and forth on selling my Lexus IS300—the car that had been with me through so many milestones. I listed it twice before, just to “test the waters,” but every time, I backed out. It made me too sad to think about letting her go.
But on the third time, I was committed.
Before listing it, I did some market research—comparing prices, checking listings, and seeing what clean title, OEM 5-speed IS300s were going for. And honestly? They were nearly impossible to find. Even the clapped-out, salvage title, ragged-out versions were selling for over $9,000.
So, I set my number: $13,888. Either I was getting that price, or I was keeping it. My wheels were worth almost $5k, not to mention the parts...
And Then… the Hate Came Rolling In 😆
You would NOT believe the amount of absolute insanity I got for listing it at that price. The fanboys were foaming at the mouth over it. 🤣
I was told I was a “stupid woman” (because apparently, pricing a car based on actual market value instead of KBB offends fragile egos). The rage people had over me asking more than KBB was laughable. Like, seriously—since when does KBB determine rare JDM enthusiast car prices?! I’ll wait… 😆If you need more clarification on that, head over to Sean Morris at TopRank and I'm sure They'll set you straight.
Guess What? It Sold… for MORE.
The first person to come check out the car immediately bought it. Not only did he agree to my price, but he handed me $14,000 on the spot. Yep, MORE than my asking price. I even wiped my tears with the bills.
So, to everyone who lost their minds over my pricing: this is my final goodbye to the toxic side of the car community. You’ll read more in my next blog about why I distanced myself from the certain areas of the car scene.
Stay tuned. 😏💸
